Conceptual Art: Merging With Nature

CONCEPTUAL ART

Conceptual art, sometimes simply called conceptualism, is art in which the concept or idea involved in the work take precedence over traditional aesthetic, technical, and material concerns. In other words, it is art in which the idea presented by the artist is considered more important than the finished product, if there is one.

Question

After watching these videos, why is Mendieta's art work conceptual?

ACTIVITY

Students will go to the arboretum on campus.

a) They will walk through the arboretum and find an element of the arboretum that resonates with them. They would photograph the element and post it on Discussion Board.

b) Students will create groups. Each group will agree on using an element within the arboretum to make an artistic proposition. They will record or photograph the event and post it on Discussion Board.

FIRST LESSON PLAN

  • Students will use this experience to write their first lesson plan.
  • The lesson plan will be written by the group.
  • The lesson plan does not have to follow a specific format.
  • Students will write the lesson plan intuitively.
  • At the end students will share their work.

I chose to take a picture of this tree because of the texture and the tactile uniqueness of this tree.
