Lesson Plan

KINDERGARTEN LESSON PLAN

Natalie Vestergon, Jenna Yesenosky, Bayley Macnamara

Component: Aesthetic and Critical Inquiry

Objective: Identifying Shapes

Competency: The student knows the difference between an original work of art and are production

1.Start class by playing a video to familiarize students with visual the components of the difference between the shapes.

2.Get them to meet Pete the Kitty, if they relate to a character it will make them more inclined to want to learn and pay attention.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDKNVuu_TAs

3.Demonstrate drawing different shapes on the board and ask the class to name each shape

4.Pass out paper and crayons and ask the class to mimic the shapes you had just drawn on the board on their own paper

5.Introduce a cube-shaped, puzzle-like game in which the students can put circle, square and triangle pegs into the correct holes.

Offer assistance to students if they struggle. This creates an association between their original work of art (which may not be perfect)and the reproduction of the shapes as pegs.

6.If the students seem to be excelling past this activity, ask them to create a picture made of basic shapes and then explain the drawing. Ex: This stoplight is created by one rectangle and 3 circles.
